Devices and browsers

The table below says which devices and browsers C-A-R-T-A has been tested on and how it went, feature by feature. It is not written by hand: the program generates it from the results of automatic tests. Above the table you can see which version the tests ran on and on what day.

The tests run on emulated browsers: Chromium (the engine of Chrome and Edge) on a computer, also with the smallest window it has when installed as an app (in emulation it is only the same window size, not a real "as an app" window); Android; iPhone; iPad, with WebKit (the engine of Safari); and Firefox. "Emulated" means the browser runs on a computer and behaves as if it were a phone or a tablet, with the same screen size and touch instead of a mouse. But it is not a real phone, and a real device may behave differently. That is why, when someone tests C-A-R-T-A on a real phone or tablet, the test is recorded separately: in the "Mode" column you will see "real" instead of "emulated". If a device is not in the table, it does not mean it does not work: it means nobody has tested it.

There is one known limit, and it concerns iPhone and iPad. The emulated tests use WebKit on Windows, which lacks OffscreenCanvas, a browser feature that pdf.js uses to write the signature into the PDF when saving. In that environment the signature is placed on the page ("signature" is ✓ in the table), but when saving, the file comes out without the signature, with a warning: that is why "save" is ✗ on iPhone and iPad. Printing is not among the tests in the table. This is a limit of the test browser, not of Safari: from iOS 16.4 onwards Safari on iPhone and iPad has it. To know whether the signature really ends up in the saved PDF on an iPhone or iPad, a test on a real device is needed.

Tests ran on version 2026-11-01.13 on 1 November 2026.

«Emulated» means tested on a computer that imitates the device; «real» means tested on an actual device. The notes in the last column are the automatic test log, which is in Italian.
